Is Chandrayaan 3 Still Working? Alive, Active or Sleep

After the success of Chandrayaan 3, people are keen to know everything about the mission and whether Chandrayaan 3 is still Working. Alive, Active or Asleep? So here we have compiled all the latest news about the Current Status of the spacecraft. Let us find out if Chandrayaan 3 is Still Working.

Is Chandrayaan 3 Still Working?

Indian Space Research Organization, giving the latest updates on the mission, has said in their statement that the Pragyan Rover module of the Vikram Lander was put into sleep mode on Saturday. As the rover’s functioning depends upon solar power, it would not be possible to stay for a longer period of time at night. Hence, both Pragyan Rover and Vikram Lander were put to sleep to withstand on the Moon.

It’s now 12 days gone after the historic soft landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the surface of the Moon, and now both rover and lander are retired for the night. The Rover, in these 12 days, has completed its assignments and sent back all the images it captured through Lander to Earth. It is now safely parked till the next sunrise. The payloads for APXS and LIBS are disabled, and the Lander transmits data to the Earth from these payloads.

ISRO also stated that the next sunrise on the Moon is expected on September 22, 2023. The solar panels are intended to receive the sunlight from the next sunrise. This is why the receiver is kept on. Wishing for a fruitful start to a new batch of assignments. If not, it will serve as India’s lunar ambassador for all time.

Is Chandrayaan 3 Alive, Active or Sleeping?

Is Chandrayaan 3 Still Working

Chandrayaan 3 Pragyan and Vikram are still functional; they were just put to sleep to tolerate the Moon night, which has a temperature of near -135 degrees Celsius. ISRO chairman Somanath, while addressing the congratulations message on Aditya L1 sonar mission, has stated that both the rover and Lander are functioning well, and the Rover has completed its assignments and is parked safely. The battery of the Pragyan rover is fully charged, and hopefully, it will start exploring the Moon’s surface again by September 22, 2023.

However, there is no guarantee that the system will work again as the mission is designed to survive 1 Moon day, which is equivalent to Earth’s 14 days. However, the ISRO scientists have built an innovative feature of sleep and wake up. So if Lander and Rover survive the Moon’s night temperature, it will work for the next sunrise days on the moon.

Chandrayaan 3 Current Status

We have compiled the current status and the latest news about Chandrayan 3 in the points below to understand things quickly.

  • Pragyan Rover, before being put into sleep mode, has traveled a distance of over 100 meters.
  • The assignments are completed by Rover; hence, the scientific objectives are completely met.
  • The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft’s payloads were all in good condition and performing as intended.
  • The Pragyan also helps confirm the presence of Oxygen in the Lunar soil.
  • With the help of the LIBS instrument on the rover, the presence of sulphur, calcium and many metals such as iron, manganese, titanium, aluminum, chromium and oxygen.
  • One can design a habitat in that way because the Vikram lander showed that the temperature decreases by 60 degrees C from the top of the 2 cm-thick “fluff” to 8 cm below the surface.

What Happens If Rover Does not Wake up?

Currently, the battery of the Pragyan Rover is fully charged, and there were hopes that after the moon night, it will wake up and start exploring the surface of the moon. However, the Rover will serve as India’s lunar envoy for all time if the wakeup attempt is unsuccessful.

ISRO Chief Somnath said that the system has worked beyond their expectations and that it has fulfilled all the objectives for which it was designed. If it is successfully awakened, it will be like the cherry on the cake.

Keeping our fingers crossed for the successful awakening of the Pragyan Rover and Vikram Lander, we are now wrapping up our post. If you wish to know the latest news and the current status of Chandrayaan 3, please come to our site regularly.
