ISRO has announced Gaganyaan Mission and the test is scheduled on 21 October 2023. A high-level conference was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the future of India’s space programs and to evaluate the Gaganyaan Mission’s development. The mission’s preparedness was assessed at the meeting, and it was determined that the first human launch would probably occur in 2025. The meeting is scheduled a few days before the mission’s anticipated developmental test flight.

It was mentioned that there will be about 20 significant tests, three of which will be crewless HLVM3 missions. 

On October 21st, the Crew Escape System Test Vehicle will conduct its initial demonstration flight. The Prime Minister instructed that India should now aim for new and ambitious objectives in order to build on the success of recent Indian space projects, such as the Chandrayan-3 and Aditya L1 Missions. These include sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040 and establishing the “Bharatiya Antariksha Station” (Indian Space Station) by 2035.

Gaganyaan Project Aim

A plan for exploring the Moon will be developed by the Department of Space. A number of Chandrayaan missions, the creation of a Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV), the building of a new launch pad, the establishment of human-centric facilities, and related technological endeavors will all fall under this category. A Venus Orbiter Mission and a Mars Lander are only two examples of the interplanetary projects that the prime minister challenged Indian scientists to work toward.

After two successful test trips, the first unmanned flight—during which a similar unpressurized crew module will be transported into space—will occur. The crew module will be pressurized for the last flight in order to replicate the atmosphere on Earth. Before the second unmanned flight, two comparable test vehicle missions will be conducted to test all systems. Gaganyaan will only send astronauts after two successful unmanned flights.

ISRO Gaganyaan Mission Date and Time

The ISRO began the Gaganyaan Mission, which seeks to deploy a three-person crew into space. Previously the mission was planned to launch in 2022 but later it was changed. The maiden test will happen on 21 October 2023, between 7:00 AM IST and 9 AM IST from Sriharikota Spaceport.

ISRO intends to launch two unmanned missions in advance of this manned Gaganyaan Mission. An unmanned mission is scheduled to launch in December 2023 or Jan 2024 Starting. However, the coronavirus outbreak interfered with ISRO’s operations and missions, forcing the maiden unmanned flight to be delayed.

The Gaganyaan project aims to launch a human crew into a 400 km orbit and return them safely to land in Indian sea waters as a demonstration of human spaceflight capability. Gaganyaan Mission Site

A single-stage liquid rocket designed specifically for abort missions serves as the test vehicle. Along with the CM fairing (CMF), Interface Adapters, and Crew Escape System (CES) with fast-acting solid motors, it holds the Crew Modules (CM). At a height of around 17 km, the Crew Escape System in particular will separate from the Test Vehicle and go through a self-executing abort sequence, which will finally result in the safe landing of the CM in the water about 10 km off the coast of Sriharikota.
