Aditya L1 Live Status

Indian Space Research Organization, after the success of Chandrayan 3, is all set to launch their new mission Aditya L1 Mission. The main objective of the mission is to understand the dynamics, weather and surroundings of the Sun. Aditya L1 will be launched by ISRO at 11:50 a.m. from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh’s Satish Dhawan Space Center. The satellite is intended for coronagraphy.

It is targeted to be placed at tag range point L1; hence, the mission was renamed Aditya L1. The first-ever solar mission of India will carry seven scientific payloads.  a PSLV-XL launch vehicle will launch today, and the countdown commenced at 12:10 pm on Friday.  Initially, the budget allocated to the mission was Rs 3 crore, but with the expansion of the mission, the cost went high, and the allocated cost was ₹.78.53 crore, excluding launch costs.

Aditya L1, after entering an Earth orbit, will gradually place itself on a course toward its final halo orbit, which will be centred on the first Lagrange point (L1) of the Earth and the Sun. The Lagrange point makes for an advantageous viewing location for the probe since it allows it to maintain its position while expending little fuel.

Indian Space Research Organization, ahead of the mission launch, are offering prayers. A team of scientists, just a day before the launch of the mission on 1st September 2023, visited Tirupati Balaji Temple carrying a miniature of the spacecraft to offer prayers for the success of the mission.

The satellite is anticipated to be put into orbit in the middle of January. The mission will acquire photos of the Sun’s atmosphere’s various layers almost simultaneously, revealing the mechanisms by which energy may be directed and transported from one layer to another. The mission payload is targeted to send 1,440 images daily. The first images could be available by the end of February 2024.

ISRO said that the Sun is the nearest star to the Earth; therefore, it can be studied deeply. The 190 kg VELC Payload will deliver photographs for five years, according to a statement made by IIA experts, and the satellite is expected to last five years. Nevertheless, depending on the amount of fuel used, it might last much longer.

Aditya L1 Position

Adityta L1 will maintain a distance of 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth in a halo orbit around the L1 Lagrange point between the Earth and the Sun, according to a statement from ISRO. It will observe the solar atmosphere and its effects on the Earth’s environment from this vantage point. It would pay particular attention to the Sun’s outer atmosphere. As you know, the Sun is a giant sphere of gas; hence, it is impossible to land and go closer.

The overall distance between the Sun and the Earth is 150 million km, and the L1 point is 1.5 million km, which is approximately one per cent. The spacecraft, instead of landing on the Sun, will be placed in a fixed orbit; hence, the payloads will continue to orbit around the sun to collect information.

Aditya L1 Speed

After launch, it will take the Aditya-L1 mission roughly 125 Earth days to get to the halo orbit surrounding the L1 point, which is located approximately 1,500,000 km (930,000 mi) from Earth. For the life of its intended mission, the spacecraft will stay in the halo orbit while being maintained at a stationkeeping cost of 0.2 to 4 m/s per year.
